Brilliant Weather for Dungarvan Walk Print

Peaks Mountaineering Club Notes 25th May 2009

The weather and walking for the Clonmel to Dungarvan crossing were excellent. Bright sunsine, cool breeze on top and lovely short heather made for an excellent days walking. The large group of twenty seven walkers led by Pascal Byrne and Michael Tobin left on time from the Holy Year Cross and made good progress to the Nire Bridge. After a rest and a bite to eat they set off for the long drag to the top of Seefin. The groups separated in to three sections of different speeds, climbed and walked comfortably with steady progress. There were no navigation difficulties with visibility of many kilometres at all times and after covering about thirty kilometres of varied walking and climbing terrain tired legs arrived at Bridgie Terry’s for a welcome meal and some light rehydration therapy before the bus back to town. This is as good as it gets and all in our own backyard.
Next Sunday’s walks 31st May are in Kerry and the Knockmealdown’s. The bus for the Kerry walk leaves Eldon’s at 7.45 sharp. There are two walks planned an A walk led by Michael Tobin and the B walk led by John Morrissey.
The Knockmealdown walks are at 12.30 with Greg Kenny leading assisted by Carol Delaney and Donald Whooley. As the long evenings are to hand the Wednesday 27th evening walk leaves from Eldon’s at 18.30 led by Michael Power.
