Peaks Mountaineering Notes  3/6/09

The sudden arrival of tropical temperatures has spurred mountain folk to explore the lovely mountains in the South East. There is no word from the Kerry group but it can be taken that they enjoyed themselves and were able to see all of the splendour of the highest mountain range in Ireland .There will be a report in next week’s notes and an update on the coming summer Bar- B –Que in the Comeragh’s.
All walks next week the 7th June are in the Galtees which are step up walks and the leaders for the walks are   Philip Dunne for the 9.30 walk. Ger Barrett leads the 10.30 walk. There is a mid morning walk at 11.30 led by John Byrne and Aine Lynch. The afternoon walk leader is Bernard Lennon assisted by Sean Walsh and Noreen Greene.  As usual there is a pick up at the Co-Op Stores in Cahir opposite the filling station on the Clonmel Road. The weather forecast is for cooler weather but we can look forward to dry conditions and pleasant company for a day in the mountains. All the walks are step-up walks and we encourage the Peaks members to move up to the walk above their customary walk. The leaders will adjust speed and distance to allow for your capabilities. Bring ordinance map no 74 if you have one to mark the route for your own personal use later.
Evening walks will take place on Wednesdays, leaving Eldon’s at 6.30p.m.
