Peaks Mountaineering Club Notes  8th June 2009

The Galtees on Sunday were a very pleasant place with dry weather and a gentle breeze. The conditions underfoot were good and the coll between Galtybeg and the Cush was dry enough for crossing without getting the feet wet. The Peaks Club had four led walks and all walks were well supported. Gerry Barrett led the half ten walk and did the horseshoe which includes Cushnabrinna , the Wall, Galtymore, Galtybeg, Cush and some wandering in between . Bernard Lennon led the afternoon walk assisted by Sean Walsh and with twelve clubbers did the Cush Circuit at a gentle pace. The earlier walks were also well supported and the stop at the Foot Bar on the way back to Clonmel was a nice finish to a lovely day in the mountains.
The walking season for the Peaks Club is drawing to a close with only three more scheduled Sunday walks left. This coming Sunday 14th June is Bar-B –Q Sunday and is in the Comeragh’s.
Tom Dalton leads the 10.30 walk and the afternoon walk at 12.30 is led by John Bourke assisted by Richard Williams and Nora O Donovan All walks start from Eldon’s and will finish at the Bar-B-Q location known only on a need to know basis. This social event is the full meal with steaks, burgers, bread, sausages in fact everything and all you need to have is a good appetite. The cooking is done by our highly trained club members who will once again prove their title of MCC (men can cook). Washing up afterwards is by way of black bags and a little elbow grease.
There is also the usual Wednesday evening walk which leaves Eldon’s at 18.30 for Glenshelane led by Martha Beardmore. Justin McCarthy will lead a Saturday walk on the 20th starting at 12.30 but confirm with Justin beforehand.
