| Clean Up at the Holy Year Cross |

Peaks Mountaineering Club Notes 6th July 2009 The official walking season is finished until September but the activities of the club members continue. The Peaks club members held a cleanup night on Wednesday the 1st at the holy year cross. The club members gathered all sorts of rubbish from cans to bags and some items which are not mentioned in polite society. South Tipp Co Co. helped in the disposal of the rubbish collected and it says a multitude about our civic standards that it is accepted as a norm that the behaviour of throwing away all our rubbish scarcely raises an eyebrow.
Some of our clubbers completed the Galtees Challenge which is a distance of 31 kilometres taking in Temple Hill, Galleymore, Galtybeg and everything in between. Well done to Margo, Michael, Kay, Niamh, Miriam, Martha, Alice, Maurice, Kathleen and Seamus. A total of 73 walkers from many clubs took part on a wet and windy day. The Galtee Walking Club presented a lovely certificate and gloves on completion.
There is an away weekend planned in Kerry for the 18th to the 20th September with two led walks. Walk no1 is the Old Kenmare Road to Killarney which is 25 kilometres long with ascent of four hundred metres. Walk no 2 is the Tahiulla to Kenmare which is 24 Kilometres long with ascent of five hundred metres. Both days walking are on low level marked routes suitable for all members. There is accommodation to be booked and all the bits and bobs which make for a successful away weekend. Contact Justin or Martha for more details.
