Peak's Mountaineering Club Notes 24th September 2009 The annual General Meeting of the Peaks Club was held on Thursday night the 17th and it was a well attended meeting. Jim O Flaherty the outgoing chairman had the business of the meeting underway briskly and called for the secretary’s report which Nuala gave. The report covered the main issues which were dealt with during the year past and best of all there were no mishaps on our mountains which is a tribute to the leaders and their mountain skills training given by club members Gerry and Greg. Noreen gave the all important financial report and we have a few bob still left in the bank. This is good housekeeping and maybe our betters in Government should apply some of Noreen’s skills in the national interest. The membership subscription stands at € 50 for the year including insurance and the quarterly magazine. There are also the free introductory two led walks for intending members. The times of walks are changed for the new list which will be coming out next week when our meets secretary Martha has finalised walk leaders.
Jimmy Fenlon our webmaster was highly complimented for his skills in managing the website at www.peaksmcclonmel.ie . Log on to the website for your meets list and the photo gallery to keep up to date with the clubs activites.
The new committee elected for the coming season is as follows Chairman Michael Tobin, Secretary Nuala O Connell, Treasurer Noreen Greene, Meets Secretary Martha Beardmore, P R O Bernard Lennon and Committee Members, Margo Kelly, Jim O Flaherty, Kevin O Donnell. Wednesday night the 30th Sept. at 9.30pm in Eldon’s has been scheduled for introduction night for intending member. Please come along to find out about walking our beautiful mountains, the type of gear needed and ask the questions. There is no obligation to join as this is an information night.
Fiona Hegarty and Joe Quigley led the afternoon walk in the Knockmealdown’s on Sunday. Fiona had the walk well surveyed and it was very suitable for our new members who were introduced to the gentle parts of the Knockmealdown range. Fiona’s walk looped from the County Boundary on the Melleray Roar to Crohan dropped into the valley under and back over the coll to the firebreak and out.
Walks next Sunday the September 27th are in the Comeragh’s and the leaders are 10.30 John Byrne, 12.30 Pascal Byrne assisted by Joe Quigley and Martha Beardmore. More details on our website or call Bernard on 0862937220. The weather is changing at this time of year and can turn nasty without much notice so bring all the outer gear and a hot drink for a day in the Comeraghs. |
