Peak's Mountaineering Club Notes 25th October 2009 Slievenamon on Sunday was the best place to be for some civilised walking. With the top shrouded in mist Bernard Lennon led the early walk on a part circuit of the base by turning off at the end of the wood on the ascent from the track. Dropping to the Toor side with shelter from the driving mist the walk proceeded under Sheegouna in good order towards Cnocahanna wood. Turning under the cairn Bernard picked up the stream leading to Poultaggart waterfall and a spot of lunch. Circling Carraigabrock and on a westwards course the next adjustment was at the cross over Carrickbrock. An eastwards leg to the coll and after Carrigeenacor the long pull back up to the top of Slievenamon at seven hundred and twenty one meters. The descent was a nice warm walk down after the days climbing and six hours hill walking covering about eighteen kilometres.
The midday walk was led by Andrew Ryan assisted by John Bourke. Andrew choose Kilcash village as his starting point and leaving the cars he led on the road towards the track from Toor. With his group well warmed up Andrew and John led onto the east side of Slievenamon and headed up through the heather. The going was tough and the heather high but the group prevailed in their task. Once on top Andrew led downwards on the track and back to the cars at Kilcash in a walk of over ten kilometres.
