Peak's Mountaineering Club Notes 22nd November 2009 The floods and bad underfoot conditions did not deter the Peaks members from venturing out on the mountains for their Sunday exercise.
Ger Barrett led the early walk in the Knockmealdown’s and started from the Baylough Car Park and swung southwards through the woods. Finding appropriate forest tracks leading onto the open mountain in the Knockshanahullion area. Contouring around in the shelter from high winds Gerry topped out at 652 meters and using the Avondu Way as a guide led back to the cars after some tough walking in poor underfoot conditions.
Greg Kenny switched his walk to the Comeragh’s and with Pat Beardmore selected a dry route from the Kilclooney Bridge area. Using high ground as a guide Greg led onto the Iske Sullas route and circled the lakes. Avoiding crossing swollen streams and boggy ground Greg led a thoughtful walk in difficult conditions with nineteen club members delighted with the scenic route and the gentle pace.. All walks on Sunday the 29th are in the Comeragh’s and bring ordinance survey map no 75 if you can lay hands on one. These maps are available from local newsagents reasonably priced and enable the club member to retrace the walk later .
Reminder that the annual Peaks Christmas Party takes place on Saturday the 5th December in Raheen House starting at 7pm with a buffet meal followed by a night of music and craic… Tickets from any of the committee and numbers are limited.
