Peaks Mountaineering Club 6th April 2010 Easter weekend is a quiet time for walking as members are with their families at home and away. The noon Easter Sunday walk was led by Brendan Nyhan and with the day that was in it Brendan had a nice short walk planned. Having done his homework earlier including walking the walk Brendan led off in fine style from the park up at Harney’s cross. Using the Boola Bridge as the crossing reference he led on to Shauneenabrega and keeping on the high ground to the Knocksheegowna trig at 678 metres. Dropping off in the coll Brendan led to Mohra Lough after losing 212 metres in height in some rapid descending on slippery surfaces. Course adjustments soon had his crew heading westwards across the top of the woods and some lively contouring soon had them under Carrigseegowna and a gentle walk out to the cars. The distance covered was about 8.5 kilometres and a lovely afternoon stroll.
Kevin O Donnell led the route training walk for the leaders of the C walk for the Knockmealdown later this month on Saturday the 24th. This crossing starts from the County Line on the Melleray road and enters at the zig zag sign and up the green track. Keeping high Kevin led to the coll between Knockmeal and Crohan West and across to the wall. Taking a Northward course over Crohan West and dropping to the woods under he swung eastwards for the Liam Lynch monument. Using forest roadways and tracks he led out by the waterworks and to the finish in Gotenbridge. The leaders have taken their notes and course adjustments for the day. There will also be another dry run on the 18th and all are advised that all walks start from Gotenbridge on that day .There will be more in the notes nearer the date.
