Excellent Walking in the Burren Print

Peak's Mountaineering Club Notes  31 May 2010

Kevin Bowen led a very successful walk in the Burren and with Tommy Fox assisting the walk covered some serious kilometres. Starting with 29 Peaks members Tommy and Kevin led on to Mullaghmore Mountain and headed for Torloughmore Mountain. After some rest and refreshment it was on to Cappaghmore Mountain and finally onto Sliabh Carran. It was a day of beautiful sunshine and walking among the signature flora of the Burren in May was heaven indeed. For those uninformed who think there are no mountains in Co Clare the height gain was 665 metres and distance covered 22 kilometres. Stern stuff indeed and thoroughly enjoyable. The journey back to Clonmel was broken by a very welcome meal stop and some refreshment to round off a great day in the Burren.
This coming Sunday 6 th June the club is away again with the trip to Wicklow led by Michael Greene. The bus leaves early for this trip so be at Eldon’s at 8am sharp. The seats are limited and must be booked by putting your name on the list at Eldon’s or calling Nuala. The return journey will stop off for a meal and refreshment. A change of clothing should be brought and left with the bus for a change later. The walk is well within the scope of the average fit clubber and lasts about 6 hours with height gain of 900 metres at a decent pace. The schedule of evening walks continues each Wednesday at 18.30 from Eldon’s and is an ideal way to keep fit if Sunday does not suit. There are details of each event that the club does and a photo gallery from all the club members covering holidays, local events and special moments. The links to other clubs and their events is particularly useful and a pleasant way to keep in touch with events on our lovely mountains. The website is up to date and can be assessed by logging on to www.peaksmcclonmel.ie or calling Bernard on mobile no 0862937220 for other club info.
