| Greg and Michael on Black Cuillin Ridge |

Congratulations are due to club members Michael Tobin and Greg Kenny who have just recently returned from Scotland after a successful traverse of the Black Cuillin Ridge on the Isle of Skye. Generally regarded as one of the best long distance rock scrambling routes in the world, it is a great test of any climber’s commitment and all round mountaineering skill. While having luck with good weather is probably the most important requirement in a successful traverse of this route, it also requires sound navigational skills, confidence in the use of a rope and a good level of fitness. It is a very spectacular range of high mountains and according to Greg is a ‘must do’ for any mountaineer that enjoys scrambling at a moderate grade. He says, ‘if you are prepared to tolerate the swarms of midges, and fortunate enough to get about 4 days of clear weather, it is a fantastic challenge and a really enjoyable outing.’ Photo
