Peaks Notes 23rd January 2012 Good stiff breezes, dry and cold were the conditions on the Comeragh’s on Sunday and the Peaks really enjoyed the day with a great turn out. Gerry Barrett led the early walk and he went east to Kilclooney Wood for his park up. The scenic route was his choice and up by the side of Coumshingaun through the rocks and a little bit of exposure and he was on top with his group. Heading north east across the bog towards the rim of the Coum Iarthar Loughs he led and down into the shelter. Rested and fed it was a gully climb back to the top and then picking up the Solas Iska stream as his guide he led gently back down to the cars after a good day on the Comeragh’s. Michael Greene led the noon walk with Fiona Hegarty and Jimmy Trehy as backup. Michael started from the scout’s cottage with thirty three walkers eager for mountain and they got plenty. A good steady pace was set for Knocksheegowna and using the rocks for shelter lunch was taken. The strong North Westerly wind kept the group off the ridge and the next stop was at Lough Mora before a course change to bring the group onto the forest track which brought them back to the cars after three and a half hours of good walking. The walks next Sunday the 29th January are on two different mountain ranges. The bus leaves for Keeper Hill sharp on time and your name must be on the list. The walk is suitable for the regular noon walker but only active club members will be allowed on this walk. Michael Tobin is leading the walk and his contact details are on your meets list. The noon walk is in the Galtees and the leader is Lily Butler assisted by Ruairi O Caisleain and Nora Phelan. There will be the usual pick up at Morrison’s Garage but ring the leaders for walk details and the numbers are on the new meets list.
